“Tokyo Test Run” is Andreas Gehrke’s first-time exploration of Tokyo’s architecture and urban spaces. The work doesn’t present a grand city portrait, but rather refined observations: fragments of facades, layers of light in dense urban spaces, transitions between inside and outside. Gehrke traces lines, edges, and surfaces that reveal architecture’s unique atmosphere more than they provide orientation.

The title “Test Run” implies a first pass – a tentative exploration of Tokyo, with hopes of returning to expand the work. In its reduced form, the book recalls traditions of the Japanese photobook, in which the joy of precise seeing and the openness of the gaze matter more than a definite commentary. The limited edition consists of 150 copies.
